CHENNAI: Tambaram Corporation has appealed to residents to not burn old materials during the Bhogi festival this year. The corporation will collect old materials from residents in all wards.
Tambaram Corporation commissioner R Alagumeena said the focus this year is on celebrating the festival without contributing to environmental pollution.
Residents can donate old items — clothes, tyres, rubber tubes and others — to the dedicated cleaning staff to curb the customary burning of waste materials on Bhogi day.
The collection drive that started on Tuesday will go on till January 14.
