‘Unicorn Overlord’, ‘Stolen Realm’, Plus Today’s Other New Releases and Sales – TouchArcade

Hello gentle readers, and welcome to the SwitchArcade Round-Up for March 8th, 2024. In today’s article, we’re taking a look at the remaining releases of the week. There are a lot of new games in the eShop today, and we’re summarizing around half of them. The other half are in the ol’ Bin Bunch, because it’s that kind of day. We also have a ton of new sales to look at, so that’s something. Let’s finish our business and get to the weekend!

New Releases

Unicorn Overlord ($59.99)

The latest Vanillaware game brings the developer’s stylish touch to the tactical turn-based RPG genre. With that said, think less Tactics Ogre and more Ogre Battle for this game. Travel the world, build your army, assemble units, and fight against fate to take your rightful position. Our pal Mikhail is reviewing this one, and he’ll have his thoughts ready for you to read on Monday, it would seem.

Valiant Hearts: Coming Home ($14.99)

Previously seen in Netflix’s catalog of games, this follow-up to Valiant Hearts is now available on the Switch. You’ll play as four different characters, each offering a different perspective on the war. If you enjoyed the previous game, I don’t see why you wouldn’t want to dig into this one too, though admittedly its heavy emphasis on story might make it a one and done for most. The Netflix option is still there if you fall into that group.

Metal Mind ($17.99)

A top-down roguelite shooter, eh? I guess it’s been a few days since the last one. In this, you’re a robot. Some bad humans have decided robots shouldn’t have free wills, and they’re rounding them up to enslave them. Not cool! So to prove them wrong about robots with free wills being dangerous, you’re going to murder them all. Collect and equip over one hundred parts, including weapons and other items. Well, you know how this goes. It seems well-made for what it is.

Xatrom Command ($5.99)

This is a relatively simple top-down shooter with fifty levels that you can tackle alone or with a friend via local multiplayer. There are a handful of different weapons you can make use of, and you can play on a variety of difficulty settings. That’s about all there is to say about it.

DateJournal ($14.99)

This is a fairly standard dating simulation with one unique twist: you play a game of Minesweeper to determine how well each date goes. Sure, why not? As you get to know each of the six women better, you’ll unlock new outfits and images. Hey, at least it’s trying something different. I’ll give it that.

Greed: The Mad Scientist ($15.99)

Search for the hidden objects… in a laboratory full of secrets!

Stolen Realm ($19.99)

Okay, I know. We already have another tactical turn-based strategy game today. We’ve had a few this week, even. But this is another really cool one that is worth considering. You can play with up to six players, either via local multiplayer or online, but whether you go with friends or on your own you’ll find this to be a satisfying RPG experience. You know, as long as your idea of a satisfying RPG experience is nothing but battles, leveling up, and battling some more. Hey, some people are really into that. There’s even a roguelike mode if you feel like punching up the challenge a bit.

Warhammer 40,000: Dakka Squadron ($19.99)

A curious case, as this is clearly a Red.Deer game but I don’t see the usual bonkers pricing that indicates its usual marketing “strategy”. No, this is just a plain ol’ good game at the same price it costs elsewhere. A dandy little aerial combat game that is fun for all good children. Choose an Ork clan, battle through a campaign with five different planets, upgrade your plane, and have a blast both figurative and literal. This one is really well-liked on other platforms, and I’m sure it will find a happy audience on Switch.

Dark Days ($7.99)

More horror adventures, this time from the creator of Under The Waves and White Night. I don’t know those games, and I’m not about to play something this deep in the horror category, so I’m not sure if this is good or junk. I’m putting it here instead of the Bin Bunch out of an abundance of caution. Do what you will with it.

Lost Lands: Stories of the First Brotherhood ($13.99)

Search for the hidden objects… in a brotherhood!

The Bin Bunch

Car Racing Ice – Classic ($11.99)

Buggy Offroad Racing ($4.99)

Neon On! ($4.99)

Cube Jump Ultimate ($3.99)

Pipe Connect ($3.99)

Toon Roads: Race & Drift ($4.99)

Dentist Bling ($4.99)

Bubble Fresh Fruits ($9.99)

Warrior Escape ($3.99)

Airport Link: Connect Near Me ($4.99)

(North American eShop, US Prices)

Why yes, another MAR10 Day is upon us. Praise be to Marten. In honor of Sir Marty, there are a bunch of sales on Mario and Mario-related games. No idea why. There is also a very healthy list of other sales, and I assume they are not related to Marten at all. Still, there are plenty there to fill your boots with if you’re into boots-filling. As a metaphor. Don’t stick games in your real boots, even digital ones. Boots are for wearing. Check those lists!

That’s all for today and this week, friends. We’ll be back next week with more new releases, more sales, more reviews, and perhaps some news.

I’ve hemmed and hawed about doing this because I’m not sure if it’s appropriate, but I want to say it so I will. It was announced today that on March 1st, the manga artist Akira Toriyama passed away at the age of 68. Regular readers know I’m a pretty big fan of the Dragon Quest series, which he has served as the main artist on since the beginning. I’ve also enjoyed his other work, including Dragon Ball and Doctor Slump. I suspect many of you reading this were also inspired and touched by his works. I’m not really sure where I’m going with this, but I want to express my respect for the man and gratitude for all he gave us during his time with us. I’m not sure what is waiting on the other side, or even if anything is, but I want to believe he’s at peace now. Good-bye, you absolute legend.

Thanks for reading.
