Panaji: Focus should be directed on transforming mindsets about ‘divyangjan’, recognising their unique skills and determination, said Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a written message for the inauguration of the International Purple Fest held in Panaji, on Monday. In his message, he expressed joy over the inspiring success stories of individuals with disabilities across various domains, signifying societal awareness of their needs and aspirations.
He applauded the commendable efforts of the office of state commissioner for persons with disabilities, Goa, directorate of social welfare, Goa, and the department of empowerment of persons with disabilities under the ministry of social justice and empowerment in organising the event.
Highlighting the nation’s commitment to an accessible and inclusive Bharat for divyangjan, Modi outlined the various initiatives taken in the past decade, including Sugamya Bharat, Divyang Pension Scheme, and ADIP Scheme, aimed at empowering individuals with disabilities. He hailed the International Purple Fest as yet another commendable stride towards this noble cause.
“The festival will help attain a wide array of objectives — be it creating an ecosystem that nurtures comprehension, teamwork, and empowerment, nurturing empowerment through advocacy, enhancing self-confidence, providing platforms for individuals, organisations, and institutions dedicated to accessibility and inclusion, or generating economic opportunities,” he said.
The Prime Minister also commended the Purple Think sessions, designed for comprehensive deliberations on diverse topics pertinent to disabilities, fostering inclusive discussions on education, employment, and early intervention.
As part of ‘Vision 2047’ to build a developed India, Modi emphasised the importance of creating new opportunities for divyangjan, acknowledging their role in propelling the nation towards progress.
