The Body Shop France shuts down

Placed in receivership by the Paris Commercial Court on April 4, The Body Shop France, the French entity of British cosmetics retailer The Body Shop, was placed in compulsory liquidation on July 17. As expected, the only remaining partial takeover bid, that of Berger International, which had been revised downwards, was not accepted.

The Body Shop shops in France closed on Sunday July 14. The Body Shop, which opened its very first shop in Paris in 1982, had 60 shops and 293 employees in France. According to LSA, some of the company’s stock has already been sold to Mistigriff and Normal.

While the receivership signals the end of the brand’s presence in France, the situation seems to be gradually coming to an end for the parent company in the UK. According to the administrators, The Body Shop International is close to an agreement with the consortium led by Aurea. If an agreement is reached, the new team would be led by Charles Denton, former managing director of the Molton Brown beauty brand.
