Sainthood: ‘Sainthood is about serving society’ – Mysuru | Mysuru News
Mysuru: Those who want to enter sainthood must be mentally prepared to continue studies in various aspects and maintain calmness apart from committing towards serving the society, said litterateur Go Ru Channabasappa on Sunday.
Speaking at 85th jayanti celebration of Immadi Shivabasappa Swami organised at Sri Kundooru Mutt, he said it was not an easy task to enter sainthood as it was not a job to be applied for nor a profit-earning business, but an opportunity to serve the society based on studies and spiritual achievement.
A person should be compassionate and committed, and be able to help in developing a culture-based society, Channabasappa stated, adding that mistakes committed by a religious body or religious leader cannot be tagged to other religious bodies or religious leaders. Though the mutts do not have the power similar to the government, it can create awareness and work towards the betterment of the society, he said.
Channabasappa also remembered the close relationship between Immadi Shivabasappa Swami and Shivarathri Rajendra Swami, former seer of Suttur Mutt. Suttur Mutt seer Shivaratri Deshikendra Swami, Siddaganga Mutt pontiff Siddalinga Swami, Gadag-based Thontadarya Mahasamstana Mutt seer Thontada Siddarama Swami, Kanakapura-based Degula Mutt seer Mummadi Nirvana Swami, Delhi-based Central Sanskrit University VC Shrinivasa Varakhedi and former VC Mallepuram G Venkatesh; MLAs TS Srivathsa, HM Ganesh Prasad were present.
