Hours after bail from HC in drugs case, Congress MLA Khaira arrested in fresh case
Punjab and Haryana high court grants regular bail to Congress legislator Sukhpal Singh Khaira in a drugs and Arms Act case. However, he is arrested in a fresh FIR for criminal intimidation and threatening a woman to give false evidence. The high court also dismisses Khaira’s petition seeking pre-arrest bail. Khaira claims the government is on a witch hunt against him. The court observes the evidence against Khaira in the drugs case is sketchy and inconclusive. The court also rules that Khaira’s arrest and further investigation in the drugs case were not illegal.
