Noida Receives ‘Water Plus’ Certification for Its Efforts in Waste Management | Noida News
Noida: The city has received ‘water plus’ category certification for the first time ahead of the Swachh Bharat ranking (2023) that will be announced on January 11.
Officials said the ‘water plus’ certification is the top ranking in the ODF city category. This is a significant achievement that the city has been striving for the last several years.
The certification has been received for the Authority’s work of installing bamboo bar screens along the drains and the regular removal and treatment of floating material.Previously in 2022, the city had ranked 5th in the Best Self Sustainable City category.
“Provision of Bar Screen has been made so that floating material is being continuously removed from all the drains and is being disposed of continuously, so that floating material is not visible anywhere. All the sewage of the Noida area is treated at the Sewage Treatment Plant and the treated water is used in parks, green belts, gardens, construction work, spraying for grapes, etc and this generates revenue,” said SP Singh, DGM, public health, Noida Authority.
The Authority has received a 5-star ranking in Garbage Free City (GFC) Category for 2023. It collects and disposes the garbage from the entire area separately in the form of dry and wet waste through a door-to-door waste collection agency.
Authority CEO Lokesh M said that the 5-star certification has been obtained in the cleanliness survey by achieving success in all 24 indicators.
The CEO further said that they are aiming for a 7-star ranking in the garbage free city (GFC) category in the upcoming Swachh Survekshan 2024. Swachh Survekshan ranking is prepared by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, in which the rank is decided on the basis of population.
Noida Authority has been participating in the category of population ranging from 3 lakh to 10 lakh. The city ranked 324 in 2018 and its rank improved to 150th the next year, receiving the first position in the state. In 2019, the city also got a 3-star ranking in the Garbage Free City Category.
