Ahmedabad: Land acquisition for the Ahmedabad-Mumbai high-speed rail corridor was completed on Monday.
This information was released by railway minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, who said that all 1,389.49 hectares of land required has been acquired.
The National High-Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) in a statement said on Monday that land was acquired for the project in Gujarat, Maharashtra and Dadra and Nagar Haveli. It said all civil contracts for the project in Gujarat and Maharashtra have been awarded, 120.4km of girders have been launched and 271km of pier casting has been completed.
NHSRCL officials said work on the bullet train was going on at pace. The statement said laying of the reinforced concrete (RC) track bed for the corridor had started in Surat and Anand. The completion of the first mountain tunnel — 350m long and 12.6m in diameter — near Zaroli village in Valsad district was completed in just 10 months, a major feat.
The statement said work has begun on India’s first undersea rail tunnel — 7km long and part of 21km of tunnels between Bandra-Kurla Complex and Shilphata in Maharashtra. Excavation for the Mumbai HSR station has also begun.
HSR stations at Vapi, Bilimora, Surat, Bharuch, Anand, Vadodara, Ahmedabad and Sabarmati in Gujarat are at various stages of construction, the statement said. The first steel bridge, spanning 70m and weighing 673 metric tonnes, was erected over NH 53 in Surat, and 16 such bridges out of 28 in the project are at various stages of fabrication, it said.
Bridge construction has been completed for six rivers — Par (Valsad district), Purna (Navsari district), Mindhola (Navsari district), Ambika (Navsari district), Auranga (Valsad district) and Venganiya (Navsari district) — of 24 on the corridor. Work on the Narmada, Tapi, Mahi and Sabarmati bridges is underway, it added.
