Jamil Hoping To Turn Things Around For Jamshedpur | Ranchi News
Jamshedpur: Jamshedpur FC’s new head coach Khalid Jamil has a huge task at hand as he prepares the side for Kalinga Super Cup, with the main round beginning in Bhubaneswar on Tuesday.
Jamil, however, is not keen on making any big changes to the team at the moment and wants to focus on just winning matches.
“No significant changes will be seen immediately in the team.I just want to win. It is of utmost importance to boost the morale of the players and it will also bring back smiles on the faces of the loyal Jamshedpur fans,” said the I-League-winning coach during an interview with TOI.
He took over the mantle of the team after the unceremonious exit of English coach Scott Cooper midway into Indian Super League 2023-24 season last month and is well aware that the players will need time to settle down under him.
Speaking about what has been ailing the side, the coach said, “The defence hasn’t been good enough. Also, we need to focus on improving our striking. But we need to go step by step to improve the performance.”
While all this will take time, his focus for now is making a positive start against his former club NorthEast United FC in the Super Cup opener on Wednesday. “The teams are all equally strong and our players will have to prove their excellence to do well in the tournament,” added the former India player.
Doing well in Super Cup will surely give the players a whole lot of confidence but the bigger challenge will be ISL, where JFC are currently languishing at the 10th spot with nine points from 12 matches. Even last season, when Aidy Boothroyd was at the helm of affairs, the Red Miners failed to impress the fans both at home and away.
