During the presentation of its 2023 fiscal year results, which boasted record-breaking sales and profits, the Inditex group announced strategic moves to bolster its logistical progress. Foremost among these is the construction of a new center in Zaragoza spanning 286,000 square meters. Furthermore, it will initiate operations at two new logistics complexes in the Valencian Community and enhance the capacity of its Lelystad facility in the Netherlands.

The new Inditex center in Zaragoza, situated in the Malpica industrial park, will be dedicated to Zara‘s distribution. It will mark the company’s second complex in the region and the fifth for the flagship brand within the city. Thus far, Zara already operates a 325,000-square-meter center in Zaragoza, whose expansion was inaugurated in 2023, serving as the hub for shipping women’s apparel to its European stores.

These new facilities are poised to generate approximately 1500 direct job opportunities, as highlighted by Aragon’s president, Jorge Azcón, during a press conference on Wednesday. He lauded the Galician group’s new investment, stating, “It strengthens Aragon’s position as a logistical powerhouse in southern Europe and underscores our commitment to being at the forefront of attracting investments, innovation, and technology.”

As reported by the local newspaper Heraldo de Aragón, the future facility will feature three levels of storage and associated technical premises. Additionally, it will boast 113 loading docks and an adjacent office building spanning 6675 square meters.

“This center will become an international benchmark, not only in logistics but also in three elements crucial to Aragon’s development: innovation, technology, and sustainability,” added Azcón during his address.

The construction of this complex is part of Inditex’s investment program for expanding its logistical capacity, with the group allocating 900 million euros for the 2024 and 2025 fiscal years. In addition to the Zaragoza center, the company will inaugurate a new Bershka distribution center spanning 116,000 square meters and a Tempe center covering 141,000 square meters, both in the Valencian Community. Moreover, it will expand its facilities in Lelystad by 123,000 square meters.

“All these centers will be equipped with state-of-the-art technology and adhere to the highest sustainability standards,” remarked Óscar García Maceiras, CEO of Inditex, during the results presentation. “The logistical expansion project aims primarily to capitalize on new business opportunities,” he added.

This logistical investment will be complemented by an additional 1.8 billion euros allocated for optimizing retail space, integrating technology, and enhancing online platforms.
