Hebbagodi Residents: Hebbagodi residents protest against BMRCL for naming Metro station after Biocon | Bengaluru News

Bengaluru: Villagers in Hebbagodi on Monday protested against Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) for naming Hebbagodi Metro station on Hosur Road after Biocon. BMRCL had installed a nameplate that identified the newly constructed station as ‘Biocon Hebbagodi station’. The protesters demanded BMRCL remove the prefix.
Manjunath K, a protester, said: “Hebbagodi area with many villages has historical importance. The name of the locality shouldn’t be changed just because the company funded the construction of the station. It’s not only the company, even people have parted with their lands for the Metro corridor on Hosur Road. Our demand is the state government and BMRCL name the station after Hebbagodi alone.”
Additionally, the residents have also demanded the construction of a skywalk in the area for pedestrian safety.
In 2020, Biocon Foundation had signed an MoU with BMRCL to contribute Rs 65 crore for funding the construction of the station. Chief PRO of BMRCL, BL Yeshwanth Chavan, said they have received a representation on the issue and action will follow after studying the same. tnn
