Heavy vehicles diverted at Banda | Goa News
Panaji: The traffic cell of Goa police on Monday began diverting heavy vehicles transporting non-essential items from Banda in Maharashtra for a week on a trial basis to assess the traffic situation, as construction of the six-lane elevated road at Porvorim will commence by the end of this month. Such traffic will pass through Dodamarg, Bicholim and Sanquelim to Ponda.
“There is expectation that there will be a lot of disturbance to normal flow of traffic during the construction of the bridge (at Porvorim). We are working on alternative routes so that residents of Goa and tourists face minimum inconvenience,” superintendent of police (traffic) Akshat Kaushal, said.
“From Monday, we began diverting heavy vehicles with non-essential items or those just passing through Goa to go to some other states from Banda. We have coordinated with authorities from Sindhudurg and local police inspectors. Before Patradevi, we will divert traffic from Banda via Dodamarg to Sanquelim to Ponda,” he said. “Vehicles with essentials like vegetables, petroleum products, perishable items and ambulances, however, will not be stopped.”
