GTA 6: A Key Theory Has Been Debunked
A running theory about Grand Theft Auto VI is that Troy Baker, one of the most popular and best-known voice actors in gaming, is voicing the male lead in the open-world game. Baker himself has now responded to that theory, telling The Movie Dweeb that he counts it as a compliment that people think it’s him, but it’s not.
“I want that guy, whoever it is, to get credit for his work, because I’m sure it’s going to be great. That’s a grind. Those guys pour themselves into those characters and they deserve all of the credit for their work,” Baker said of people who do voicework for Rockstar Games.
When GTA VI’s first trailer arrived in December 2023, some people believed Lucia’s partner, rumored to be named Jason, was voiced by Baker because the one line the character has in the trailer sounds like Baker’s voice. For what it’s worth, we don’t know who is voicing Lucia yet, either, though of course the internet has its theories on that, too. In fact, Rockstar Games has not made any official announcements regarding the voice cast for GTA VI.
GTA VI is reportedly now in the final stages of development, and is scheduled for release in 2025. A recent report said the game could release in Fall 2025 or might slip to 2026.
Rockstar Games is requiring most staffers to return to the office beginning April 15 to finish the game and to help prevent leaks. Not all Rockstar workers are happy about this, though, as some say the return-to-office mandate removes a lifeline.
GTA VI is in development at Rockstar North in Edinburgh, Scotland, with Rockstar’s teams around the world supporting the game’s development. It is one of the most highly anticipated video game releases ever, and Rockstar Games is seeking “perfection.”
As for Baker, he is known for a great variety of voice acting roles, including Joel in The Last of Us, Sam Drake in Uncharted, Pagan Min in Far Cry 4, and Higgs Monaghan in Death Stranding. He’s also voiced Batman and The Joker, and has appeared in the Call of Duty franchise.
