Facebook Page Review Spam – Jon Loomer Digital
Facebook page reviews have become completely worthless…
When page reviews first became a thing around a decade ago, they were helpful. People provided (mostly) honest reviews of my content and that rating was a source of pride.
But now It’s a primary target of spam attacks on Facebook. The reason for that is that you can’t remove reviews because you could otherwise inflate your rating by removing bad reviews.
You can technically report spam reviews, but I only get errors when I try. Even that game of whack-a-mole doesn’t work.
The result is that about 95% of the reviews my page gets now are spam. And it’s the sleaziest kinds of spam. Just trash. It got to the point where after more than a decade, I finally just turned reviews off.
If you want to turn yours off, here’s what you do…
1. From the mobile app, go to your Page Settings and click Edit.
2. Click to edit the Details.
3. Next to your rating, click the Edit icon.
4. Finally, turn off “Allow reviews on your Page.”
Of course, this won’t do anything about the DM spam that Meta can’t seem to do anything about, but this is a start.
