Extort: One Booked For Bid To Extort ₹4.5l From Kin Of Arrested Man | Pune News
Pune: The Pune Rural police recently booked a Baramati resident on the charge of attempting to extort Rs 4.5 lakh from the relatives of a man arrested by the Baramati police in December last year based on a complaint from a woman he was allegedly in relationship with.
The man’s uncle lodged a complaint with the Baramati police on Saturday.
An officer from the Baramati police said that according to the complainant, his nephew was in a relationship with a woman.However, his parents were against the relationship and forced their son to marry another woman. “The complainant told us that the woman, his nephew was in relationship with, came to know about the marriage and lodged a complaint against him,” the officer said.
He said the complainant stated that the suspect, who is their acquaintance, approached him and promised to get his nephew out of the case. “The man claimed that before his nephew was arrested, the suspect took him and his sister-in-law to a flat near Baramati. He had told the complainant that either his nephew should marry the woman he was in relationship with or should purchase a 2BHK flat for her,” the officer said.
He said that the complainant stated that after his nephew was arrested, the man promised to get him out of the case and flaunted “good contacts” with the police.
“The complainant told us that the man demanded Rs 4.5 lakh to take care of all the legal aspects of the case. When the complainant refused to pay the money, the man threatened him with dire consequences,” the officer said.
He said that man has been booked on the charge of extortion attempt and other relevant sections of the IPC.
