Mysuru: In the wake of an increasing number of cases of drug abuse in Mysuru, the district police on Saturday conducted a walkathon in temple town Nanjangud to create awareness about the effects of drug abuse.
Holding placards the district police led by SP Seema Latkar walked through the streets of Nanjangud, from the precincts of Sri Srikanteshwara temple to Nanjangud stadium, covering a distance of 2km.Hundreds of junior college students and youths too joined the police personnel in the awareness walkathon.
Police educated the public about the health consequences of drug addiction and how drug abuse has ruined families.
The police personnel created human letters – NO DRUGS at the stadium to draw the attention of the public.
SP Seema Latkar informed STOI that the number of cases of drug abuse has increased in 2023, compared to 2022 and 2021 in Mysuru and hence police decided to create awareness against drug abuse.
Additional superintendent of police BN Nandini and DSPs and inspectors, sub-inspectors took part in the first-of-its-kind awareness programme.
