Chilly Monday: Mercury At Lowest Level Since 2013 | Ludhiana News

Ludhiana: Monday marked a freezing beginning of the week in Ludhiana, as it was the coldest January day since the year 2013. Residents shivered as maximum (day) temperature fell to 9 degrees Celsius on Monday. The meteorological department has predicted dry weather in Ludhiana for the next few days.
Fog reduced visibility in the city to 50 meters at 8.30am.The visibility improved slightly after that to be recorded at 300 meters at 11.30am. As fog enveloped the city, maximum (day) temperature was recorded at 9 degrees Celsius, 8.1 degrees less than normal and 1.4 degrees less than a day before. Meteorological department data suggests that in 2013, maximum temperature was recorded at 8.5 degrees Celsius. On January 6 last year, day temperature was second lowest in the period at 9.2 degrees Celsius.
Media bulletin of the meteorological department for various cities/areas of Punjab on Monday suggests that Ludhiana had the lowest day temperature in the state on Monday. Bathinda followed with a maximum temperature of 9.2 degrees Celsius. Minimum (night) temperature in the city was recorded at 6 degrees Celsius, 0.5 degrees above normal but 0.5 degrees less than a day before.
Meanwhile, the meteorological department has predicted “Fog/mist in the morning and partly cloudy sky later” for Tuesday. The forecast for Wednesday is mainly clear sky and for Thursday, it is “clear sky.” It also predicted rise in day temperature over the next three days.
According to the meteorological department website, day temperature in the city might rise to 16 degrees by Thursday whereas night temperature is expected to rise to seven degrees on Tuesday and fall to six degrees the next day.
The met department has issued a yellow alert for Ludhiana on Tuesday and predicted “dense fog/cold day” for the day.
