BPSCL: BPSCL to Install New System to Reduce Pollution | Bokaro Power Supply Company Limited | Ranchi News
Bokaro: With an eye to reduce sulphur dioxide emissions and increase power production in the state, the Bokaro Power Supply Company Limited (BPSCL) has announced the installation of a Flue-Gas Desulphurisation (FGD) unit.
The FGD system aims to remove sulphur dioxides (SO2) from flue gas generated by boilers and furnaces, ensuring 100% treatment. CEO of BPSCL, Aninda Das, told TOI, “The DPR (detailed project report) for the FGD unit is being prepared by NTPC and will soon undergo the tendering process.”
The Union ministry of environment has mandated emission standards for SO2 in thermal power plants (TPPs), which include BPSCL.The move aligns with the national commitment to control SO2 emissions within specified limits. “Once installed, the FGD unit will facilitate 100% flue-gas treatment. This initiative underscores our commitment to sustainable practices and adherence to environmental regulations,” Das said.
The BPSCL management said it is also embarking on an expansion project to increase power generation by 60 MW. The expansion includes the installation of a new boiler, turbine, and generator. The additional power generated will strengthen the power requirement of Bokaro Steel Plant (BSL) and will also play a crucial role in supporting its ambitious brownfield project.
Das said, “The installation of a new boiler will elevate BPSCL’s power production from the current 338 MW to 398 MW. This expansion aligns with the broader objective of meeting the growing energy demands of BSL’s brownfield project, which aims to boost steel production capacity from 4.5 MTPA to 7.5 MTPA by 2030.”
At present, from its eight boilers BPSCL supplies 150-160 MW power and 1,200 tonnes of steam per hour to BSL, catering to its steel-making processes. The new boiler will not only enhance electricity production but also augment steam production.

Supplies of petroleum products resumes from Bathinda
After the intervention of the state government, petroleum product supplies resumed from oil depots of Indian Oil Corporation (IOL), Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL), and Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL). Bathinda Deputy Commissioner and Senior Superintendent of Police held a meeting with oil company representatives and drivers, assuring them of police protection during supplies across the state. Long queues persisted at petrol stations as supplies had not reached all locations. District officials urged patience, emphasizing that supplies have resumed and there is no shortage of petroleum products.
