Transport department procures speed guns, breathalysers and pressure guage to curb crashes | Mumbai News
MUMBAI: The state transport department on Tuesday issued work orders for speedy procurement and installation of laser based speed gun with laser camera (to prevent speeding), alcohol breath analyser with built in printer and camera (to prevent drunk driving) and tyre trade gauge with pressure guage (to prevent tyre burst cases).
These will be fitted in Scorpio classic vehicles which will be the new interceptors on roads and highways to curb crashes and bring down fatalities across Maharashtra.
Deputy transport commissioner (road safety) Bharat Kalaskar on Tuesday said that Mumbai metropolitan region will get 38 interceptors of the total 187 being procured in a month.
In Mumbai region, transport commissioner’s office will get two interceptors, Tardeo and Thane RTOs four each and Wadala, Andheri and Borivali RTOs three each besides 19 more at other RTOs in the region. The cost of the entire project is pegged to be at around Rs 35 crore.
