Sophia Webster relocates HQ, joins eastward shift in London

UK luxury footwear and accessories brand Sophia Webster is to relocate its headquarters from London’s Shoreditch, taking up residence on Sugar House Island, a “creative quarter” in east London that’s growing in popularity.

It’s taking 2,133 sq ft of space in Sugar House, the island’s centre point and a former 19th century sugar refinery warehouse, with the canal-side property becoming home for the business’s central team.

Webster said: “We have been immensely impressed by the area’s burgeoning creative community, and the social offer available on the doorstep for our team.”

The fashion brand is the latest in a string of creative businesses to move to the area as developer Vastint UK said Sophia Webster’s move to Sugar House Island is “emblematic of how creative talent in the capital is shifting eastwards”.

Last year, the London College of Fashion moved into a new campus on the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in nearby Stratford.

The Sophia Webster deal follows the recent practical completion of the next phase of development, Chimney Walk, which has delivered a further 220,000 sq ft of commercial office and education space alongside 23,000 sq ft of retail and leisure space for independent brands.
