Multilevel Parking Projects: Reviving 2 Multilevel Parking Projects in New Delhi – MCD | Delhi News
New Delhi: Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) is making a fresh attempt to revive two old multi-level parking lot plans at Sant Nagar in Rani Bagh and Shastri Park after the merging off civic bodies in Delhi.
MCD recently did a survey of its surface parking lots and finalised Ranni Bagh and Shastri Park as the locations where the multi-level facilities would be made.Officials said that due to increasing demand in busy commercial areas, a decision was taken to make ramp-based multi-level lots.
At present, 227 cars can be parked at the Sant Nagar, Rani Bagh, surface parking area. About 230 vehicles can be parked at Shastri Park. “Once the multi-level parking is made, there would be a three to four times increase in parking space. We are yet to decide if we will develop the car park on our own after an initial report by a consultant or get a concessionaire under a public-private partnership (PPP),” the official said.
At Rani Bagh, the existing surface parking is opposite the main market. In the evening, the area is mostly full and vehicles are often parked on the roadside, leading to congestion.
The parking lot projects for these spots were conceived eight years ago by the erstwhile North Corporation, which shared details of these projects in its budget for three consecutive years. It was successful in inviting tenders to develop the Rani Bagh parking lot on a PPP basis.
However, the projects did not see success at either place for various reasons.
At Rani Bagh, there was a plan to develop a Rs 60-crore facility, spanning 4,000 square metres and nine floors. The parking lot was supposed to have a commercial complex and parking space for 600 cars. The parking lot at Shastri Park was planned to have a similar space for four wheelers, to be made by a concessionaire who would bear the cost and run the space for a certain period.
An MCD official said all efforts will be made this time to implement the projects. “We will understand the reasons for past failures and accordingly take precautions,” the official said.
