B – Oral Health Foundation
Oral-B is one of our most longstanding partners. We have been together for more than a decade and it’s because we share exactly the same values.
We are both committed to prevention and work really hard to raise awareness of the links between oral health and general health.
A number of Oral-B toothbrushes are ‘approved’ under our Accreditation programme and have been clinically tested to ensure the highest standards are maintained so that, when used correctly, everyone can achieve good oral health.
After Oral-B joined the Oral Health Foundation’s Accreditation programme, they became National Smile Month’s very first Platinum Sponsor. That was back in 2008 and it’s an initiative which they have been involved with ever since.
Oral-B’s continued dedication to National Smile Month has meant that, as a charity, we are able to reach even more people with positive messages about oral health and hygiene and provided support and advice to those who really need it.
In 2014, their parent company, Proctor and Gamble, gave us an educational grant to translate all our patient information into nine of the world’s most spoken languages. These include French, German, Spanish, Polish, Russian, Portuguese, Hindi, Arabic and Chinese Mandarin. It was a project which took 18 months to deliver and involved around 80,000 words being translated!
This project has, and will continue to have, a positive impact on the education of millions of non-English speakers all over the world.
Oral-B and National Smile Month
The links between oral health and general health have been much debated and nowadays have been scientifically proven. Good oral health would therefore seem to be the logical way forward. Oral-B is committed to prevention. Along with this ethos is a commitment to quality. All products undergo rigorous clinical testing to ensure the highest standards are maintained so that, when used correctly, everyone can achieve good oral health.
Oral-B’s most recent innovation is the SmartSeries electric toothbrush which allows dental professionals to programme patients’ brushing routines onto their mobile to ensure they follow professional guidance between appointments. Control is firmly passed to the patient, but under the guidance of dental professionals. Brushing duration, mode and problem zones can all be highlighted and the information easily retrieved. Moreover, the brush can store up to 20 brushing sessions so you don’t need to have your phone in the bathroom; the data will simply be transferred the next time the app is connected to the toothbrush!
The mechanical benefits of Oral-B’s power toothbrushes compliment the chemical efficacy afforded by their Pro-Expert toothpaste. Gum health through effective plaque control is just one of the many beneficial features of Oral-B’s Pro-Expert toothpaste and it’s the inclusion of stabilised stannous fluoride (SnF2)that makes the difference. This powerful ingredient gives Oral-B’s Pro-Expert toothpaste a long-lasting antimicrobial action, which fights plaque and consequently gum problems. Laboratory and clinical studies have confirmed that the inclusion of stabilised stannous fluoride will inhibit antimicrobial growth as well as reducing the ability of bacteria to ‘stick’ to tooth and gum surfaces. All toothpastes are not the same. Whilst the inclusion of fluoride is a taken, to afford maximum protection, a formulation must contain other proven ingredients that work in harmony together to promote good oral health.
Just like chemical and mechanical plaque removal work together to afford maximum benefit so too must the dental profession and dental trade. National Smile Month is the ideal time to go the extra mile to encourage patients to take greater care of their oral health between appointments. An extensive campaign, spearheaded by the Oral Health Foundation, will see the profession, schools and workplaces, as well as retail outlets combine to help raise awareness. Oral-B is delighted to once again be a platinum sponsor. The Oral Health Foundation strives tirelessly to increase the awareness of good oral health amongst the population. They champion the cause all year round and do their utmost to counter the lack of ‘airplay’ dentistry receives in the consumer press and do much to counter the often negative news stories. Collectively we can improve the health of the nation.
