Cascades down from a height of about 40 feet, this waterfall is a haven for peace lovers as it is untouched by tourism and has the most gorgeous backdrop formed by the undulating terrain of dense forest. It is said that bears used to drink water at the top of the falls, hence giving it the name Bear Shola Falls. With a bumpy and hilly approach road, the walk through the forest itself gives you a wonderful experience. Also, the forest area of the Western Ghats near the waterfall is a biodiversity hotspot where you can have a rendezvous with animals like monkeys and deer in the wild. However, this waterfall comes alive only during monsoon.


Silver Cascade Falls

Silver Cascade Waterfall is a natural waterfall located on Kodaikanal – Madurai Road. Pambar Falls

Fondly called the ‘Grand Cascade’, Pambar Falls is another spectacular waterfall in Kodaikanal, among the top places to visit near Madurai. The town water reservoir overflows southwards forming the Fairy Falls which continues to join the Vaigai River forming the Pambar Falls through its course. Known for its natural surroundings, this fall is a must-visit for all travelers who want to spend some quality time with their loved ones in the lap of nature during their Kodai Trip. Pambar Falls can be reached by a steep, slippery path behind Pambar house. There is a pond at the bottom, which is perfect for bathing as well as swimming.


Fairy Falls

Placed in the Kodaikanal, Fairy Falls is one of the unexplored waterfalls in Kodai, among the most scenic hill stations in Tamil Nadu. This waterfall is the source of the Pambar River which later joins the Vaigai River. Fairy Waterfall is quite serene with the richness of flora and fauna. The sparkling water that fills the pool at the bottom of the waterfall is best for bathing and swimming.  This is the least discovered by tourists; hence the peaceful environment and sound of the water will soothe your soul and mind. Although no direct roads lead to this waterfall, visitors may still take directions from the locals to reach this place.


Vattakanal Falls

Known for its rich biodiversity, Vattakanal Falls is a small yet beautiful waterfall located in Kodaikanal. The best time to visit this place is during the rainy season when the waterfall is in complete glory. Thalaiyar Falls

Situated on the slopes of Palani Hills, Thalaiyar Falls is one of the highest waterfalls in Tamil Nadu and the third-highest waterfall in India. Also known as Rat Tail Falls, it is one of the popular sites for trekking near Kodaikanal and among the best places to visit as part of Madurai tour packages. With a height of 975 feet (297 meters), Thalaiyar Fall appears as a long silver line amidst the mass of foliage surrounding the mountains. Since there is no road access to the falls, one needs to trek 6 km which takes around 2-3 hours one way. Hiking is also allowed near this waterfall but only during the dry season. Thalaiyar Falls appears most vibrant in monsoon. And, most people enjoy the sight from the View Tower situated at the nearby Dum Dum Rock.
