Fruit peels for skin
The inherent exfoliating and nourishing properties of fruit peels make them good for your skin, says Dr Jatin Mittal, Cosmetologist and Skin Expert at Abhivrit Aesthetics, New Delhi.
1. Orange peel
Orange peel, which is high in vitamin C, helps to lighten skin, reduce black spots and encourage collagen synthesis for youthful skin. Orange peel’s natural acids exfoliate the skin, eliminates dead skin cells and clears clogged pores and gives you a radiant complexion.
2. Lemon peel
Citric acid present in lemon peel helps to lighten dark spots, even out skin tone and remove excess oil. Citric acid is more like a natural bleach, so it reduces skin pigmentation and enhances skin texture in general.
3. Papaya peel
The peel of the papaya includes enzymes like papain that remove dead skin cells and leave the skin smoother and more vibrant, says Dr Mittal. Papain promotes a smoother, more radiant complexion by breaking down inactive proteins and removing dead skin cells.
4. Banana peel
Antioxidants, vitamins and minerals found in banana peel help to moisturise the skin, reduce inflammation and encourage a healthy shine. Lutein, an ingredient in the peel, moisturises and nourishes the skin, giving it a youthful appearance.
5. Apple peel
Antioxidants and vitamin C included in apple peel aid in skin renewal and elasticity maintenance. The antioxidants fight free radicals, minimising ageing symptoms and producing a youthful, radiant complexion.
