The student’s father approached the police on Saturday and submitted an application for a complaint to initiate action against the vice-principal.
In the incident, the 15-year-old victim developed pain in the hand after which his father got him admitted to hospital. Later, the father went to the police station to lodge a formal complaint. “My son was ill and went to school on Friday after a few days’ leave. The teacher hit him along with six other students in a separate room,” said the father, who does screen printing work.
In the application submitted against the vice-principal, he father alleged that she hit the students badly after taking them into a separate room.
“The teacher and senior officials have no right to beat students. They should have called the parents and informed them if a student did some mischief,” the father told TOI.
He stated in the application that his son was sitting with his head resting on a bench as he was unwell, while a few other students were making noise just behind him. A class teacher noticed this and asked all of them to stand outside the class.
“The seven students were later taken to the principal’s office where the principal instructed her to hit the students. She then used a bamboo stick to thrash them,” the father said.
“I have received information about the incident. The parents have not lodged any complaint. The school was closed when we received the information and an inquiry will be done only on Monday,” said an official in Valsad district education office.
