Tamil Nadu govt buses run as per schedule on day one of strike | Chennai News

CHENNAI: Despite protests by workers’ unions, there are no major disruptions in government bus services in Chennai elsewhere in Tamil Nadu.
Metropolitan Transport Corporation claimed that it operated close to 97% of the scheduled bus services (3,129) on Tuesday.
Given that DMK-affiliated Labour Progressive Federation and a few others did not participate in the strike, MTC was able to operate buses without trouble for office-goers and students on Tuesday.
Transport minister S S Sivasankar said 95.3% of buses in other parts of the state were operated.
“We are ready for talks, and we will definitely resolve their issues after Pongal. This is the not the right time to boycott work because we need to operate special buses for people to reach their native places ahead of the festival,” he told reporters after inspecting Koyambedu bus terminus.
CITU and AIADMK’s Anna Thozhir Sangam had announced an indefinite strike from Tuesday demanding better pay and an increase in dearness allowances for pensioners.
