Surat: Two Nepal nationals were arrested with nine kg charas worth Rs 11 lakh at Simada checkpost.
A team of Saroli police inspector S A Desai kept a watch at the checkpost on Sunday night after getting information that some people carrying drugs would be passing from there.
The arrested duo, Avrodh Dharti (21) and Vormal Dharti (52) were on their way to Pune to deliver the drugs to a person named Sandip, said assistant commissioner of police (B-division) PK Patel.
“They had planned to take another bus from Saroli for Pune. We also seized Nepali currency and other documents related to their citizenship. They have been booked under NDPS as forensic examination primarily confirmed the contraband to be charas.”
Inspector Desai told TOI: “They entered India from Gorakhpur and came to Surat by bus. We found the drugs in their bags. We also seized their mobile phones, weighing scale, sim cards among other items.”
The duo are residents of Nisi village in Baglung district of Nepal.

The Special Task Force (STF) of Ludhiana Range busted a drug racket being operated from Goindwal jail. Two peddlers, Kushal Kumar and Sunny Kabariya, were arrested. The STF seized 950g heroin from their possession. The accused revealed their association with Karan Kalia, the kingpin of the racket. The STF is investigating the involvement of Kushal’s girlfriend. Inspector Harbans Singh stated that Kushal has a gambling case against him, while Sunny has a drug peddling case.
