Mysuru: Tourist Hubs: Mys, Goa Not Connected By Direct Air, Train, Or Bus Services | Mysuru News
Mysuru: Between two famous tourist destinations of the country, Mysuru and Goa, currently there is no direct air, train, or bus services. With cancellation of direct flight service as well as bus service from KSRTC, now the tourists are struggling to travel between these two tourist hubs.
According to sources in KSRTC, a total of 8 routes, including Mysuru-Panaji were cancelled. Other important routes cancelled includes Mysuru-Panaji, Mysuru-Vijayapura, Mysuru-Belagavi, Mysuru-Chitradurga and Mysuru-Gadag. All these were served with ordinary buses, explained sources in KSRTC.
According to sources, KSRTC was operating a semi-deluxe bus between Mysuru and Panaji since the 1980s. Later, it was replaced with an ordinary bus. Mysuru-Vijayapura bus service was launched in 1962 and inaugurated by statesman BD Jatti. “Most of the North Karnataka cities don’t have good train connectivity to Mysuru. Buses were the lifeline. Now, passengers are forced to use multiple buses to reach their destinations,” said Guru Patil, a marketing executive from the city.
KSRTC Mysuru divisional controller G Srinivas confirmed the cancellation of services to Panaji and few other long-route buses. “Except for a couple of days in a week, the passenger occupancy rate was very low on the Panaji route. So, it was cancelled. Only those routes where multiple buses are operated are cancelled to cater to the local demand,” he said.
M Vijaya Kumar, state working president, KSRTC Staff and Workers’ Union, said cancellation of the direct bus service to Goa, and other cities of North Karnataka region is causing a lot of inconvenience to passengers, especially women passengers. “We support the Shakti, free bus service scheme for women. But, it is not right to cancel the old long routes to cater to local needs,” he said.
“We submitted appeals to all including people’s representatives to restore these cancelled services. But there is no response,” he said.
C Narayana Gowda, president of the Hotel Owners’ Association, said it is sad that Mysuru and Goa don’t have direct bus, flight or train connectivity. We request all the stakeholders to re-start the Mysuru-Goa flight service at the earliest, he said.
