Belagavi: Members of Ahind Advocates’ Association staged a protest in the DC’s office premises on Tuesday, demanding the establishment of Karnataka State Consumer Disputes Redressal Centre and KPID court in Belagavi. N R.Latur, leader of the association, said they have been fighting for the last four years for a permanent bench of Karnataka State Consumer Disputes Redressal Centre so consumer disputes are setttled. “A building has also been selected following the proposal. But there has been no acitivity in the building. Steps should be taken to start Karnataka State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission bench immediately,” he said, adding: “Depositors in Belagavi and surrounding areas have deposited money in private cooperatives. But many cooperative societies have cheated the depositors. Such depositors keep going to Bengaluru and submitting the documents regarding the deposit as per the order of Karnataka Protection of Interest of Depositors’ Act (KPID). But it is difficult for senior citizens, women, and the disabled, to travel to the state capial. So a KPID court should be set up in Belagavi immediately.”

Hosapete (Vijaynagara): Dr BK Ravi, vice-chancellor of Koppal University, said Hampi Kannada University has been delivering many excellent books to readers. During the university’s Nudi Habba-32 (convocation), 51 books were released by the publication department on Tuesday. Hampi Kannada University vice-chancellor DV Paramashivamurthy presided over the function. Senior historian prof Laxman Telagavi of Dharwad was the chief guest. Dr Jaji Devendrappa of Gangavathi and Dr J Krishna of Kampli spoke about the books. Registrar Dr Vijay Poonachcha Tambanda, director of publication department Dr Shailaja Hiremath, assistant registrar MM Shivaprakash, Dr Meenakshi, and others were present.
Regulation and diversion of trains by Central Railway
Hubballi: Central Railway has notified the regulation of trains due to maintenance works in Nimblak-Vilad-Vamburi station from January 10 to 22. Accordingly, Train no. 12628 New Delhi-KSR Bengaluru Express journey starting from New Delhi from January 9 to 20, will be regulated for 60 minutes over Central Railway jurisdiction. Train no. 12780 Hazrat Nizamuddin-Vasco Da Gama Express journey commencing from Hazrat Nizamuddin on Januray 10, 13, 15 and 20, will be regulated over 2.5 hours over Central Railway jurisdiction. Western Railway has notified the diversion of following trains due to engineering works over Western Railway. Accordingly, Train no. 16508 KSR Bengaluru-Jodhpur Express journey commencing on January 10, will be diverted to run via Ahmedabad Jn, Sabarmati ‘A’ Cabin, Sabarmati Jn, Chandlodiya and Khodiyar. Train no. 16210 Mysuru-Ajmer Express journey commencing on January 9, will be diverted to run via Ahmedabad Jn, Sabarmati ‘A’ Cabin, Sabarmati Jn, Chandlodiya and Khodiyar.
Two Ayyappa Swami devotees killed in car accident on NH-50
Hosapete (Vijayanagara): Two Ayyappa Swami Maladharis from Gadag district died in an accident on National Highway 50 near Chikkajogihalli Cross of Kanahosahalli village near Hosapete on Tuesday morning. Five people were going to Sabarimala by car from Gadag via Hosapete. As the tyre burst, the driver lost control and the car hit the road divider and overturned. The injured were immediately rushed to a government hospital in Jagalur. Channaveera Gowda, 32, from Lakkundi village of Gadag taluk and Yuvaraj Kashappa Hugar, 22, from Gadag died as they did not respond to the treatment. Driver Chidambar Kulkarni, Veeranna Sangalad and Manjunath Talwar were also seriously injured. SP Sriharibabu BL, Kudligi DySP Malleshappa Malapure, Kottur CPI Venkatesaswamy and PSI Eriappa visited the spot. A complaint has been registered at Kanahosahalli police station.
Kanabargi farmers stage protest against Buda
Belagavi: The farmers of Kanabargi of Belagavi taluk staged a protest against the Belagavi Urban Development Authority (Buda), alleging harassment for land,on the premises of deputy commissioner’s office here on Tuesday. Farmers alleged that Buda officials were troubling them for land, although they have stay orders from the high court. They submitted a memorandum to the government through DC. Speaking to media persons, farmer leader Babam Malayi said that a notice was issued to farmers in 2007 regarding the acquisition of 160 acres of land in Kanabargi for BUDA’s residential scheme No 61. The farmers of Kanabargi went to the high court against this acquisition. The court passed an order in favour of the farmers on April 12, 2023 but the authorities are not ready to hand over the land to the farmers. These lands of the farmers should be surveyed and handed back to them as per the high court’s order. The government should take action to give justice to the owners of these lands, he added.

Haveri: Jaya Basava Mruthyunjaya Swamiji of Panchamasali Peetha, Kudalasangama demanded that CM Siddaramaiah call a meeting of experts before January 20 to decide on the 2A tag to Panchamasali Lingayats. Speaking to reporters here on Tuesday, the seer said despite giving us an assurance regarding our reservation movement, CM has failed to keep his promise. “We have launched 6th phase of the movement demanding 2A reservation tag for the Panchamasali community. We will perform Ishtalinga puja on the NH-48 on January 12 in Motebennur village demanding to announce 2A reservation for Panchamasali community and OBC reservation for all Lingayat communities before parliamentary elections,” he urged. The seer clarified that as part of the ongoing protest seeking 2A category status for the community, including all Lingayat sub-sects in the central OBC list, a mass Ishtalinga puja will be performed. “The government not only concentrate on the six guarantees given by the Congress before assembly elections but also cater to our demands,” he said.

Hubballi: Federation of Karnataka State Raitha Sanghas, Bengaluru, urged the state government to establish a kisan parishad to address all the issues pertaining to farmers exclusively and also alleged that the state government is neglecting farmers. Speaking to media persons here on Tuesday, farmer leader Dayanand Patil said that government should take measures to address the issues related to farmers and urged for complete loan waiver for farmers, waiver of loans by agricultural cooperative societies and nationalised banks. He also said that drought relief should be announced at the rate of Rs 25,000 per acre, farmers should be provided with 10 hours of electricity every day. “Mahadayi project should be implemented, Bedti and Varada River linking project should be implemented. Due to drought, cattle are not getting water and fodder and hence a fodder bank should be set up,” he added.
MES opposes ordinance on 60% Kannada in signboards
Belagavi: Maharashtra Ekikaran Samiti (MES) has opposed the government resolution mandating 60% of signboards in Kannada. MES, a pro-Marathi organisation, staged a protest in the DC’s office premises on Tuesday, and stated the state government can’t bring such an ordinance, especially in Belagavi, as the matter about Belagavi is sub-judice. The protesters then submitted a memorandum to the government through the DC. MES leader Deepak Dalavi told reporters the border-related suit is pending the apex court.
