JD(U): JD(U) Rules Out Talks on 16 Seats – Bihar Lok Sabha Elections | Patna News
Patna: JD(U) on Monday said the party will not compromise on its sitting 16 seats and asked the second major Grand Alliance (GA) partner — RJD — to share the rest of the 24 constituencies with Congress and the Left in Bihar to contest in the coming Lok Sabha elections. Bihar has 40 Lok Sabha seats.
Senior JD(U) leader Bijendra Yadav on Monday ruled out any discussion on the sitting seats. He said JD(U) has alliance with RJD and the latter had come with Congress and the three Left partners of the GA.
While seat-sharing in INDIA bloc has not been finalized yet, some of the Lok Sabha seats in BIhar have almost been decided. For instance, Ara and Siwan are likely to go to CPI(ML) while JD(U) is confident of contesting from Sitamarhi and Darbghanga. “As per the discussion going on, Sasaram, Aurangabad, Kishanganj and Katihar may be given to Congress, which also want Purvi Champaran from where its state president Akhilesh Prasad Singh’s son is keen to try his luck again. Congress also wants Purnia. But Purvi Champaran and Purnia are the sitting seats of JD(U),” a reliable source told TOI.
Even RJD is eyeing two of the JD(U) seats — Banka and Jehanabad. “Talks are going on. In bargain, JD(U) may get other seats,” said an RJD leader.
On the other hand, CPI is demanding Begusarai saying it has cadre votes there. Party’s general secretary D Raja on Monday even met chief minister Nitish Kumar.
When asked about the two or three seats being given to Left parties, CPI(ML) secretary Kunal said their delegation would soon meet deputy CM Tejashwi Prasad Yadav as they had met his father Lalu Prasad previous week. Lalu had suggested them to meet Tejashwi.
“We contested four seats last time, including Ara, with alliance partners’ support. We had friendly fight in Siwan, Karakat and Jehanabad. We are ready for some compromises, but seat-sharing formula should be respectable as it will send a right message to our voters. We have base in entire Bihar. In fact, in the 2019 Lok Sabha election, RJD had got over 4 lakh votes in th constituencies where we had strong hold,” said Kunal.
