Hubballi: Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation (HDMC), through Swachh Bharat Mission 2.0, has initiated the construction of public toilets and urinals, funded by the Central and state governments. A Rs 81 lakh tender has been issued for the aspirational toilet project, addressing the need across Dharwad and Hubballi.
HDMC’s executive engineer, Vijaykumar told TOI that a hi-tech aspirational toilet will be built near the fish market in Dharwad for Rs 35 lakh.Vijaykumar said that the toilet will have luxury shower facilities, touch flushing, breastfeeding rooms, an automatic sanitary napkin incinerator, a wheelchair, a separate toilet for physically disabled persons, and other facilities.
Corporation officials surveyed locations and have identified seven places in Dharwad and 11 places in Hubballi where public urinals are needed .
Public urinals will be constructed at Dharwad’s Malmaddi, Saptapur, Padmavati Theater, Nehru Nagar, Kelgeri, Srinagar and in Hubballi, behind Rajiv Gandhi School in front of Town Hall, near Old Hubballi Bridge, Mantur Main Road, Channapet and other places. A total of Rs 46 lakh will be sanctioned for the project, shared by central govt, state and ULBs.
