Mangaluru: Durga Vahini, the women’s wing of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), has demanded suspension of Mangaluru Urban Development Authority (Muda) commissioner Mansoor Ali, who is accused of allegedly harassing a woman staff.
Durga Vahini members stated in a release that the officer, who was booked for harassing a woman staff, should be arrested immediately.They also warned of a protest in front of the Muda office, if action was not taken against the officer.
Durga Vahini Dakshina Kannada district convenor Shwetha Adyapady said that the officer should be suspended from the post and legal action should be taken against him. “The woman has stated in her complaint to the city police commissioner about the sexual, mental and physical harassment meted out to her by the officer. Durga Vahini condemns the incident and urges the government to consider the issue very seriously. We will hold a protest in front of the Muda office if Mansoor Ali is not suspended and arrested,” she warned.
VHP leader Sharan Pumpwell also urged the city police commissioner, deputy commissioner of Dakshina Kannada, chief minister of Karnataka, and people’s representatives to ensure legal action against the officer.
City police on Saturday had registered a case against Mansoor Ali, based on a complaint filed by the woman, under Sections 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) and 354A (sexual harassment and punishment for sexual harassment) of IPC.
