Drug Peddlers: Cops Unearth Escape Route Used by Drug Peddlers in Khanna | Times News Network | Ludhiana News

Ludhiana: Khanna cops on Monday, during a cordon and search operation (CASO) in the police district, unearthed an escape route used for drug peddling in one of the hotspot areas in Khanna area. The police during the operation, led by ADGP (law and order) Gurinder Singh Dhillon, also arrested a proclaimed offender and registered six cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
Divulging details, SSP Khanna Amneet Kondal said: “As part of the CASO, 165 police personnel were divided into teams to check hotspots, suspected persons in various sub-divisions. A total of 14 hotspots, 134 suspects were inspected during the operation.”
The police claimed to have recovered 30 grams of heroin, 480 intoxicating tablets, one kg of poppy husk, various parts of three stolen motorcycles, a motorcycle and large iron pins during the operation.
Police officials said while conducting search at meat market area of Khanna, which is considered to be a drug hotspot, the police team led by Dhillon found a window opening in the garbage dump side. They added that apparently, it was one of the escape route used by a drug peddler.
An official said: “In Payal sub-division, Doraha police booked three drug peddlers under the NDPS Act. In two separate cases, police recovered 20 grams of heroin from Jaspreet Singh and Simranjit Singh, both of Chankoiya village. Meanwhile, Maloud police booked Ranjeer Singh of Sekha village after it recovered 180 intoxicating tablets from his possession.”
In Samrala sub-division, police booked Dalbir Singh of Chava after 300 intoxicating tablets and one kg of poppy husk was recovered from his possession. Manohar Lal of Lopo area has also been booked by the cops for the possession of a motorcycle, parts of three stolen motorcycles, and some stolen large iron.
Police officials said Khanna police arrested a proclaimed offender, Rinku Kumar of Bazigar Basti, in Meat Market area who was evading arrest in a theft case registered at Sadar Khanna police station in 2022. They added that Khanna police booked Ravi of meat market after it recovered 10 grams of heroin from his possession.
Meanwhile, Ludhiana rural police teams, comprising 250 police personnel, also carried out a CASO at around seven places in the district.
