Price, availability, and specs
The Freedo is purpose-built for portability. Dangbei provides a drawstring fabric bag to protect it from scratches and a handy hard plastic case with a carry handle for easy transportation. So, I had no worries about tossing it in my trunk with the other luggage — I knew it was safe.
Dangbei’s Freedo has a sleek and stylish gunmetal gray cylindrical design measuring 5.2 x 4.3 x 9.4 inches and weighing 3.1 lbs. The projector pivots on a built-in matching stand, offering stability and 165 degrees of adjustment to get the perfect viewing height on any flat surface. What stood out the most was the attention to detail — Dangbei went all out to ensure functionality while maintaining a minimalist vibe, with no visible ports or buttons interfering with its suave design.
The invisible, downward-facing power port is built into the stand’s left hinge and uses a thin USB-C charger instead of bulky round adapters. This particular design decision means you can easily connect power banks to fast-charge your projector on the go. The power button is as discrete as the charging port and incorporated into the opposite hinge. Even the single USB 2.0 and HDMI ARC ports are behind a silicone flap that keeps them hidden and protects them from dirt and grime.
The internal battery is perfect for picnics and road trips, with up to 2.5 hours of playtime in Eco Mode and six hours in Bluetooth speaker mode.
The fabric-coated 6W speaker matches the projector’s gray aesthetic and provides 360-degree Dolby Digital sound. It isn’t the loudest, but it is in line with the projector’s size and price.
Internally, the Freedo has built-in Wi-Fi 5 and Bluetooth 5.1 for easy streaming from the internet and smartphones and tablets. It also offers smooth operation with 2GB of DDR3 RAM and 16GB of storage for downloadable apps. The internal battery is perfect for picnics and road trips, with up to 2.5 hours of playtime in Eco Mode and six hours in Bluetooth speaker mode.
This projector uses DLP technology with a 450 ISO Lumen LED light source that’s expected to last 30,000 hours. It displays images between 40 and 180 inches in 1080p resolution and supports HDR 10 and HLG formats. Other features like Auto keystone correction, real-time keystone, and intelligent obstacle avoidance make the Freedo user-friendly and easy to set up.
Getting started is a breeze with the intuitive Google TV OS and built-in streaming apps like Netflix, YouTube, and Disney+. Everything is controlled by the handy remote, which has easy app shortcut buttons and a one-touch setup button to adjust the image settings automatically.
It might not seem like a big deal, but including two AAA batteries for the remote adds to the convenience and is a step above many brands that expect you to buy them separately.

What I liked about the Dangbei Freedo projector
It’s easy to take anywhere
I was impressed by the Freedo’s packaging and clean design right away — even before testing it. Its protective fabric bag, together with the shock and water-resistant case, make it more practical than most of its rivals and provides a safe and convenient transport method.
I’m a sucker for excellent design and aesthetics, so I loved the Freedo’s perfect mix of form and function. It’s tastefully constructed, with everything coming together in a stylish design that doesn’t compromise performance. Setting it up and getting the perfect viewing angle is simple with the built-in stand and one-touch remote, and I appreciated that I didn’t need to waste time with manual image resizing or keystone correction. Thanks to the built-in obstacle avoidance, I could walk across the beam to get drinks and snacks without disrupting the image.
A built-in battery is a must-have feature on any portable projector. The Freedo has a long-lasting internal battery fitted into its compact body, and it also offers USB-C quick charging to top it up in no time when you’re outdoors or if it runs out of juice at a client presentation.

Arcane
is one of my favorite shows because of its stellar animation, and I’m happy to say that the Freedo did it justice by handling the vivid colors and fast-paced action scenes. It was the same with the animated Justice League show, and everything looked amazing with no color saturation or contrast issues. Bad Boys: Ride or Die has some dark scenes, and the Freedo captured the action without any blur or loss of detail.
I test most projectors on Horizon: Forbidden West to see if they can replicate the lush jungles, snow-capped peaks, and other scenery. Dangbei’s Freedo passed with flying colors, and I felt the color reproduction and detail could match my 75-inch LG QNED TV. It also captured the detail and epic feel of Injustice 2 without blurring in the dark arenas.

What I didn’t like about the Dangbei Freedo projector
All I could ask for is easier port access
I spent ages trying to find a reason to mark down the Freedo and struggled — I was all-around impressed by its abilities. Its asking price is slightly higher than other portable alternatives I’ve tested, but I think it’s justified considering the premium design and carrying options.
The only thing that bugged me on the Freedo was the difficulty opening the silicone flap to access the ports. It was too tight to open with my fingers, and I needed to pry it open with my penknife whenever I wanted to use it. However, this minor issue doesn’t detract from the projector’s overall performance, and the flap will probably get looser with more use.
