Ranchi: Acting on a tip-off, city police have nabbed an arms dealer, who was roaming in the state capital with a country-made pistol to sell it.
The accused has been identified as Mohammad Asif Ansari, a resident of Hathikhana under the Doranda police station.
The pistol with the words ‘Kranti’ written on it, a cartridge and a scooter were seized from his possession, police said on Monday.
SP (city) Raj Kumar Mehta said Ansari was arrested after a raid was conducted based on the inputs provided by the the Lower Bazaar police station, which received information about him on Sunday evening. He said soon after receiving the tip-off, checking started at several places in the city and an officer deployed near the Nagar Nigam Pani Tanki caught the accused after a chase.
Mehta added that the sources and destinations of the arm’s transaction and contacts of other accused are being investigated with the inputs provided by Ansari.
