Jaipur: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) arrested Sitarampura sarpanch, Pradeep Sharma, and a broker from near Diggi area in Tonk district, on Sunday evening for accepting a bribe of Rs 1.80 lakh. This amount was taken in exchange for approving a bill worth approximately Rs 36.5 lakh for materials supplied during various construction projects carried out in the Panchayat a year ago.
Both accused were caught by the ACB immediately after accepting the bribe from the complainant’s car on the road in front of the Malpura Panchayat Samiti.
On Monday, the ACB conducted searches at the residences and other locations of the sarpanch and the broker. An official said that on January 5, the complainant lodged a complaint with the ACB Tonk, alleging that his firm, Balaji Traders, had supplied materials to gram panchayat Sitarampura in the year 2022-2023.
“The complaint outlined Sitarampura sarpanch Pradeep Sharma’s demand for a bribe of Rs 2 lakh as commission to process the pending bills, TDS, and GST refund bills, as well as previously passed bills amounting to Rs 36.5 lakh. The complainant had been facing harassment from both the sarpanch and the broker, Ramnaresh Saini, in this matter,” the official said
An official said, in response, an agreement was reached between the two parties for Rs 1.80 lakh, prompting the complainant to approach the ACB to secure the red-handed arrest of the Sarpanch and the broker. The ACB verified the complaint on January 6 and confirmed its accuracy. Subsequently, the ACB team devised a plan to catch the accused in the act of accepting the bribe.
“As part of the plan, the complainant delivered chemical substances worth one lakh 80 thousand rupees to be given to the Sarpanch and the broker. The Sarpanch was then summoned to the front of the Malpura Panchayat Committee, where he and the broker were arrested by the ACB team concealed nearby, red-handed,” said the official.
The complainant escorted both the sarpanch and the broker to his car, handed over the bribe amount, and engaged them in conversation. Simultaneously, he signaled towards the ACB team from the car window. In a short span, the ACB team arrived at the location and arrested sarpanch Pradeep Sharma, and his accomplice, broker Ramnaresh Saini. Later, both were taken to the Diggi police station, and further legal proceedings were initiated.
